Tools and Hardware Reviews of Little Giant VCMA-15ULS 554405 VCMA Series Automatic Condensate Removal Pump (115 volts), 1/50 horsepowerCustomer Review: very good manual. pump does the job. 4.5 stars. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this as a replacement to an older Little Giant pump which had higher HP rating. I have a condensing boiler for heating and it emitts acidic condensate which i need to direct to a drain about 15 feet away. This pump has no problems doing this task (of course it is very easy to do, only 15 feet and maybe 3 foot elevation).
PROS:
- smaller rated motor (less energy consumptions) is great for condensate removal.
- my favorite part was the manual which actually listed the color and purpose of each wire, i.e. green for grounding, black for main-line etc. This was VERY useful because I needed to wire the pump into an electric control box of my heating system (rather than pluging into an normal electric outlet). Of course, this is irrelevant for 99% of people because it is likely to be simply pluged into an outlet. But the manual still had the wire coding - which is a thoughtful remark.
- check valve inluded (which is good but it can become a problem later on).
- relatively quiet
CONS:
- the plastic reservoir snaps onto the lid which has the eletric parts and the motor. Initially I thought the snap-on was better then my previous pump's screw-in method. If you dont clean the pump the screws can rust/corrode and make it difficult to open. But, i saw that snap-on had a problem - when you lift the pump by its lid when it is filled with water, then the lid comes off without the reservoir because the wall of reservoir are relatively flimsy and bend under the weight of water. This is not a problem if you can lift it with two hands by the reservoir. But in my case, it is fitted in a small openning behind the heater, which makes it reachable only by extending one hand. Not a big issue but....
- although i really liked the check valve, it would be nice to if the manufactureer included an extra fitting without the check valve. If you do not have a big lift (height) to the drain, then sometimes it is better if a small amount of condensate goes back to the reservoir, instead of remaining in the tubing. Secondly, I can see how the plastic ball in the check-valve can get stuck if the condensate has some tiny debries.
SUMMARY: considering the price, this pump is very good and I would buy one again.
